Henry Homen, a household name in the Parish of St. Thomas Goregaon East, returned to the arms of the Divine Master for his well-deserved heavenly reward on 28th January 2026 after a long and selfless service in the vineyard of the Lord spanning over almost four decades. Through the ministry of the SVP, which he joined in 1993, he reached out to the poor and needy in various nooks and corners of our parish manifesting the love and concern of Our Lord to those on the periphery of society. He took over the leadership of the SVP and guided the destinies of the local unit for six years between 2007 and 2013.

Earlier on in 2001, he took over as the Parish Project Co-ordinator for the SCCs of our parish and was instrumental, with his diligent and painstaking service, in stabilizing and strengthening its functioning for over seven years. His Mahindra Jeep was his vehicle of reach-out as he traversed the length and breadth of our parish to attend core group meetings and community gatherings.

In later years, he continued to attend daily mass, travelling on foot from Mahindra Nagar, the northern fringe of our parish, helping out as a cantor, conducting the evening rosary service and assisting in various tasks in and around the parish, whenever needed.

What stood out about Henry was his ever-cheerful disposition, his wry sense of humour and his sharp wit and repartee. He was the soul of every gathering and regaled the group with his funny anecdotes and stories. His compassion transcended caste and creed and was always at the service of people, both in his community and in the parish.

May his soul rest in everlasting peace. In the words of Albert Pike: What we have done for ourselves alone dies with us; what we have done for others, and the world remains and is immortal. Indeed, Henry will always live in the hearts of all those whose lives he touched.
