The 1 st of October is observed as World Elders Day. A day to appreciate and recognize the significant contribution of the elderly to the family and society. Since the lockdown the social life of our seniors was totally restricted to their homes, a few dared to move out.
The Family Cell of St.Thomas Parish along with the Parish Fathers took the initiative of inviting the elderly of our parish on October 2, 2022 for an evening to celebrate Life- to live it and to love it. We were fortunate to have around 45 senior citizens responding to the invitation and actively participating in the evening.

The programme began with a short prayer service followed by an ice breaker that facilitated a perfect interaction between all those present as they went to form their groups. Fr.Leslie Almeida then gave a brief presentation titled ‘Its your life, love it, live it’. Fr. Leslie shared with the group the need to live in the pesent, keep oneself active, motivated, perform tasks that one is capable of doing exercise, pray and constantly keep doing good. All present were extremely motivated.

Once again the place was filled with activity as the participants were tested for their memory and observatory skills. It was worth watching each one trying to recollect and pen down the observed articles. A few spot prizes were announced. Two senior citizens were lucky to celebrate their birthdays on this day.

Mr. Cornelius Comello the deanery representative from BASCA the Senior Citizens association of the Archdiocese briefed the group about the activities of BASCA. Fr. Nelson our Parish Priest concluded the programme with prayer and blessing. Fr, Joseph
Gonsalves the Spiritual Director of the Family Cell appreciated the efforts of the Family Cell and thanked all the Elders for participating. All the seniors who came went home with a momento in appreciation from the parish.
